Announcing the First Annual Bloomington Renaissance Faire [Mar. 30th, 2006|12:57 am]
Bloomington High School South

Hey all... thought some of you might be interested in this:

What are you doing on saturday, April 15th, from 11am-6pm?

Does it involve watching fire eaters, belly dancers, magicians, jugglers, comedians and live re-enactments of medieval and renaissance combat? Will you be eating garlic herb roasted turkey legs provided by the runcible spoon, or enjoying free juggling lessons from the IU juggling club? What about falconers? Were you expecting your saturday to involve live demonstrations of renaissance era falconry?

If you were expecting to pass a dull, ordinary, 21st century day on Saturday, April 15th, then have no fear, you have been saved! This Saturday, April 15th will be the first annual Bloomington Renaissance Faire. It will be FREE ADMISSION. The faire will take place in Dunn Meadow (near the Indiana Memorial Union), and will include all of the wonderful things mentioned above, and much much more... The faire will run 4 stages, a large historical reenactment area (including a blacksmith and a combat area, of course), a somewhat less historical but equally large marketplace area (handmade jewelry, children's toys, leather goods, tarot, henna, etc, etc...), and a variety of other interesting attractions.

You should come, it's gonna be good :-)

Speech and Debate Team? [Apr. 30th, 2004|01:18 am]
Bloomington High School South
I'm not actually from Bloomington, just attend IU, so forgive me if I'm mistaken here, but does South have a Forensics program? As in speech and debate forensics, not forensic science.

I competed in the Nat'l Forensics League from 7th grade up until I graduated from high school (up north in Elkhart) and ultimatly my main goal is to teach/coach public speaking somewhere. At this point in time I really want to get back into the swing of things and try to start coaching/working with people again. I know the actual season doesn't start until October (Debate) but I want to try to work with either North or South, depending on which would be willing to let me help and maybe do some after school coaching and whatnot.

If anyone could let me know the current position of South regarding competative public speaking, that would be great! Thanks.

...I was just thinking that it would be cool if at school there was some sort of Livejournal club thing. There are a LOT of people at our school with livejournals (from what I know), and I just think that it would be cool for everyone to get together and share Lj ideas (community related stuff, layouts, ect ect).

What do you guys think?

My name is Sarah Ruggles, I am doing a joint story with Jessica Gall for The Optimist. There are a few interview questions that I would be much obliged if you answered and got back to me ASAP! Preferrably by the end of today so we can sum up and finish our story!  Here they are:

What is your name (first and last):

How lonhg have you been an LJ user?

Why did you join LJ?

Are you in any communities? (obviously you are) which ones and what does each community provide to you?

What does your LJ mean to you (is it your diary, poetry site, way to keep in touch with friends, etc)?

What is your favorite feature about LJ?

What is your username (if you wish to have it remain anonymous, tell us here)? And does it have a significant meaning?

How often do you post?

Thank you for your time and patience! Very much appreciated! :)

Staff Writer, The Optimist
